Over the last two terms and continuing this term the Birkbeck Singers will be working with music from the swing-era genre. We shall be concentrating on music from the 1940s, when men and women battled with the ravages of war and separation. Out of this time of sadness came not only courage from the common people but it gave rise to the popular singers of the time – Vera Lynn, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and the giant band leaders – Harry James, Duke Ellington and the jazz innovator Charlie Parker. Many familiar melodies came from this extremely dynamic and vibrant time in the development of music.
Come and join us and banish the winter blues away with the Birkbeck Singers – there are places available, in particular for male voices.
Our spring concert ‘Swing into Spring’ is at the Waterfront on Saturday 28 April 2018 at 7.30pm.
